Kitsilano; Home of Yoga Pants, Beach Bums and College Kids. Why Would You Run Anywhere Else?

Kitsilano Beach. The name alone conjures up images of effortless cool—yoga moms in Lululemon, college kids with no plans beyond the next sip of iced coffee, and views so stunning they make you want to stay forever. If you’re a runner, this place is paradise. The Seawall winds its way along the water here, offering up 4.5 km of blissful running, where the only thing you have to worry about is dodging other path users – and maybe the occasional frisbee or dog. These hazards can be particularly prevalent in the summer months as the city flocks to the popular beach.

The path itself? Paved, flat, and forgiving. No killer hills to worry about. The Seawall is made for easy miles, a smooth, wide surface that keeps you in the zone. The real challenge comes from the distractions. The views are too beautiful. The salty air, the sun-kissed crowds, the mountain backdrop. You’ll have to remind yourself you’re actually here to run.

You’ve got two choices when you start. Head east towards Granville Island—just over 2 km away—and you’ll pass the volleyball courts, and the gorgeous locals that call them home, push past Kits Point and onto the iconic False Creek seawall, catching glimpses of yachts, kayaks, and the always popular public market on Granville Island itself. It’s a scenic stretch where the city skyline meets the water, perfect for shaking off any lingering sleepiness. If you want to keep going, the inner seawall past Granville Island stretches over 20 additional kilometres.

Or, go west. This is a short 2km loop that’ll take you past the famous Kits Pool, a historic outdoor theatre, and, eventually, the $80 million mansion of Chip Wilson, Lululemon’s founder. From there, loop back around the pool and head East until your satisfied with your miles and ready for some apres.

Après Run: You’ve Earned It.

Post-run options? Oh, they’re as good as the run itself. You’ve got the beach vibe, the energy of the crowd, and food and drink that cater to every craving. Our favourites are:

1. The Naam – “Vegan Comfort Food”
For a feel-good meal, The Naam delivers. Known for its hearty, satisfying vegan dishes, it’s been a Vancouver institution for decades. The Naam stir-fry is perfect for refueling after your run, full of veggies, rice, and tofu—nothing too fancy, just good, wholesome comfort food that’ll hit the spot. Just a few blocks from the West end of the run.

2. Kits Coffee – “Life’s Too Short for Bad Coffee”
No matter how you’re feeling, Kits Coffee will bring you back to life with an espresso that’ll cut through the fog and make you feel like you could run another 10 km. This little shop is a local favourite for good reason—coffee that’s as strong as the ocean breeze and a vibe that matches the neighbourhood’s laid-back, no-nonsense attitude. Located just a couple blocks from the beach.

3. Jam Cafe – “The Perfect Post-Run Brunch”

After a long run along Kits Beach, there’s no better reward than a hearty meal at Jam Cafe. Known for its indulgent, comfort-loaded dishes like their famous giant pancakes and inventive eggs benedict, this local hotspot has earned its place as the go-to brunch destination in the neighbourhood. Expect a bit of a wait on weekends (the line is a small price to pay for what’s to come), but once you’re inside, the retro-charm and friendly atmosphere will make it well worth it. Whether you’re refueling with a stack of fluffy pancakes or savoring a savory brunch classic, Jam’s satisfying portions and creative twists on comfort food will hit the spot every time. Just a short jog from the beach, it’s the ultimate post-run treat. About 5 blocks from the beach on West 4th Avenue.

Why run anywhere else? In Kitsilano, the Seawall is more than just a place to get in your miles—it’s a celebration of everything Vancouver does best: beautiful views, diverse people, and a life lived outdoors. Whether you’re heading east toward Granville Island or west past Chip Wilson’s mansion, the run here feels like a victory lap. And when you’re done? Well, you’ve earned that cold brew or coffee. In Kits, it’s never just about the run—it’s about everything that comes after.
